APPLICATION GUIDANCE

Dry ice blasting applications and limitations

Understand dry ice blasting limitations for coatings, corrosion, sensitive surfaces, and production residue. Review suitability before requesting cleaning.

Dry ice blasting limitations depend on the surface

Typical applications include oils, grease, inks, release agents, and selected adhesive or process deposits. Suitability depends on the specific residue and the condition of the underlying surface.

Coatings and corrosion need a separate assessment

Strongly bonded coatings can be slow or impractical to remove with dry ice alone. Heavy or deeply embedded corrosion and abrasive surface profiling generally call for a different process.

Some equipment combines dry ice with an abrasive. That is a different process from conventional dry ice blasting and has different surface effects and media-management requirements.

Sensitive equipment requires evaluation

Inspect coatings, seals, electrical assemblies, thin components, and fragile finishes before cleaning. No single pressure or nozzle arrangement is appropriate for every substrate.

Agree on a test area and inspection criteria before extending work to a complete asset.

Review dry ice blasting limitations before booking

Share overall photographs and close-ups of the deposit, including areas with different finishes or previous repairs. Identify what should remain on the surface and what needs removal. A cleaning request should distinguish inspection access, appearance, maintenance, and preparation for a later process.

Discuss a defined test area when the response is uncertain. Record the starting condition, remaining deposits, and any change to the finish. Review the findings against the agreed objective before approving wider work. Use the service directory for equipment-specific planning and the pricing guide for scope and allowance questions.
