Foundry mold cleaning with a defined production objective

Identify the tooling and the deposit before describing the job as a general foundry cleanup. Include the tool identifier, process, substrate, surface condition, and the areas that need attention.

Dry ice blasting is used for selected production and release-agent deposits on foundry tooling. Cleaning a tool is a different scope from removing metal from a casting, repairing a die, or preparing a casting surface.

Core boxes, molds, and accessible tooling

For a core-box or mold project, provide photographs of the tool faces, detail, vents, and deposit locations. Identify coatings, repairs, and any manufacturer restrictions on cleaning.

Include the binder, release agent, operating conditions, and when the tool can be made available. Describe which sections are open or removed and which areas cannot be accessed.

Use a representative test and inspection points

Agree on the deposit to remove and the surface condition to preserve. Choose an area that reflects the tool’s actual geometry and buildup rather than only an easy, open surface.

Record the test result and remaining material at agreed inspection points. Surface wear, damaged features, and dimensional issues should be evaluated separately from the cleaning result.

Fit cleaning into the shutdown sequence

Identify the preparation and isolation work your team will complete, when each tool becomes available, and who accepts the equipment afterward. Include handling, cooling, guarding, and access responsibilities where relevant.

The work plan should identify priorities if several tools are included, along with the collection of removed material and any areas requiring another method.
