Dry ice cleaning for cars, workshops, and restoration preparation

Start with the vehicle areas you want to clean and the reason for cleaning them. A privately owned car, a workshop repair project, and a vehicle prepared for display may need different levels of access and finish expectations.

Dry ice cleaning is used for suitable grease, oil, road grime, and selected waxy deposits on accessible vehicle surfaces. The dry ice changes to gas; the removed contamination still needs collection. Existing finishes and component condition should be assessed before the working scope is agreed.

Dry ice undercarriage, underbody, and chassis cleaning

Define the undercarriage scope by area: accessible chassis and subframe surfaces, wheel-well areas, suspension components, and external drivetrain housings. An underbody clean should identify which surfaces are included and which remain behind panels, liners, or other obstructions.

Provide lift-access details and photographs from underneath the vehicle. State whether wheels, undertrays, or liners are already removed and who is responsible for further disassembly. Agree on a suitable working location rather than assuming every driveway or garage can accommodate the work.

Identify factory coatings, aftermarket underseal, labels, paint markings, corrosion, and previous repairs. Decide what should remain and what deposit should be removed. A representative test can establish how the selected surface and deposit respond.

Dry ice engine-bay cleaning

An engine-bay project needs a separate review of the accessible engine exterior, surrounding panels, brackets, and other selected components. Identify oil or grime buildup, open intakes, disconnected hoses, wiring changes, brittle materials, and previously repaired areas.

Provide an overall view and close-ups of the target areas. Agree on component protection, openings to isolate, and any parts that need removal by the vehicle owner or workshop. The quote should distinguish an external engine-bay clean from cleaning detached parts or internal engine work.

A cleaner surface can be useful for a workshop’s subsequent inspection, but cleaning is not a diagnosis or a mechanical repair. Set the handover objective before work starts.

Original finishes and restoration preparation

For a classic or vintage vehicle, use the classic-car cleaning and restoration preparation page. Identify factory markings, original finishes, aged coatings, and components that should be excluded from the cleaning scope.

What dry ice cleaning does not include

Paint correction, polishing, rust repair, recoating, and mechanical repair are separate tasks. Do not treat undercarriage cleaning as a promise to remove heavy corrosion or produce a coating-ready blast profile. Review the cleaning limitations with the desired finish in mind.

Firmly bonded underseal, deteriorated paint, adhesive labels, and delicate aged components need individual assessment. Agree on a test and exclusions where the surface response is uncertain.

Ask whether materials, air supply, travel, and disassembly are included. Two cars of the same model can present different conditions, so photographs and a defined cleaning objective matter more than the model name alone.

For workshops and groups of vehicles

Workshops can submit one vehicle or a list of similar projects. Provide the workspace, available hours, lifting arrangements, point of contact, and handover sequence. Price the initial scope before agreeing to repeat work.
